MAHR DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Ice House retrofit--renovation proposal--Water Street, Apalachicola, Fla.

The client sought character renderings of what a deteriorated old ice house, on the Apalachicola Fla. river waterfront, might look like if renovated to
meet the local historic district requirements for restored period architecture. The historic commission of Apalachicola is striving to create an
atmosphere that reflects the city in its heyday circa 1840's, when cotton was king and architecture of the period was principally ante bellum or early
colonial in style. Brick construction was popular in that period and most of the lasting architecture of this era reflects this today.

The Sow's Ear. Existing front view of the decaying old, stucco ice house as seen from Water Street. Total frontage is 150' comprised of a building
and an adjacent expired ice plant right across a small alley . The brick structure to the extreme left and adjacent to the site, was built in the1920's and was a
major consideration in a rendering depicting the stucco veneer removed to reflect a the ice house's original brick facade.

original brick retained. Emphasis was also placed on recreating the original tin roofed loading dock and entry doors. A period mural was also included
with emphasis on river life. truly a phoenix rising out of its own ashes to become the mythical, enchanting bird of flight Rendering method was an integration
of Auto Cad and digital photography modified with Photoshop 9.0
