The author wrote this150 page book, edited the galleys, created
85 pen and
ink sketches and designed the book cover for the publisher
El Sevier .
It was published in 5 languages throughout the world in 2 editions.
The Work is considered a primer for anyone seriously interested in
specifically
how landscape design is integrated into very large scale, complex development.
The model is Tuggeranong, Australia, a planned city of 350,000 just
south
of Canberra and part of the cluster of new cities forming the integrated,
internationally acclaimed "Y" plan for this region. This epic
break thru in landscape
planning is currently in over 134 universities worldwide and required reading in
many
urban design and landscape architecture programs..

Typical sketches from the book depict
a 1971 conceptual drawing of mine illustrating how the
new city
of Tuggeranong would look in the
future. A 2007 photo seen below is from the same position
29 years later and
reveals remarkable similarities between the original concept as shown and
the now
completed northern metropolitan area . The focus of the view below
defines the 372 hectare
(920 acre) lake Tuggeranong that was completed in 1984.
In the immediate foreground is the
Kambah regional center with it's super mall,
cinemaplex, and adjacent high school and medical
center. To the left are parts
of the Wanniassa area and across the lake one can make out
parts of the
town center with Tuggeranong university at the sprawling city 's core. In
the distance
are the Brindabellas which are foothills of the great Snowy
mountain range of central Australia.

Years later, a 2007 view from a very
similar position--revealing the completed northern portion of Tuggeranong--a striking
similarity between my
earlier sketch and the as built version

Another of the many graphics in the book
illustrate conceptual thinking for the massive 6 lane arterial system throughout
this dynamic city.
This design approach was the result of in depth collaboration between myself as
principal landscape architect, engineers and planners.

Striking results of my collaborative efforts
with road engineers, hydraulic engineers and urban planners. The 128 km (80 mile
) 6 lane arterial road
system in Tuggeranong is a world class example of the benefits of multi skilled
efforts going into corridor planning for new cities. All of the road
components are integrated and work in perfect harmony . This includes the sound
mounding, acoustical walls, multi trail system, anti glare mounding,
mass transit corridor, pedestrian under-over passes, park like drainage
channels and millions of trees, shrubs and ground cover. A very difficult task
indeed, but as you can see, well worth the effort.

Bits Of Colored Glass
was one of several books that I illustrated for Dr.
Donald Faulkner, the late Vice President of Case-Western
Reserve University
in Cleveland, Ohio. Faulkner had an incredible life journey
that included founding the first motel chain in the United States (Tour-Inns), developing large
parts of what is now Daytona Beach Fla, and was instrumental in guiding the merger of Case Institute
of Technology and Western Reserve University
to a resounding success that
continues on to this day as one of the nations foremost centers of
higher learning.
Faulkner could easily have rested on any
one of his impressive laurels toward the end of his life but he had yet one more
gift for us all in the form
a great talent for spinning yawns in verse. His awesome diversity of
achievements throughout his long career gave him a very deep well spring
to draw from for his tales of wit, sadness and every emotion in between.
The graphics in this particular work were
watercolor over pen and ink sketches and were further processed thru
Autocad 2006 Desktop
and Photoshop 6.0

Montage's are tricky graphic exercises in
their own right. I put this one together for general
client use a few years ago.
I have designed and built many montages, some of which ended
up in noted trade
publications (Landscape Architecture, Urban Design Today), etc.
Besides
book covers and gallery cards for artists, I design business cards,
brochures and web pages
(kentmccoy.com, 500westbayshore.com).

A few of the 150 illustrations in
progress for a new book of mine on landscape design that I'm working on. Several
publishers have expressed
an interest including Elsevier who
published my first book on Landscape Planning.
