Miami International Trade Mart at the
Airport Radisson---Miami, Fla.
The "Mart" as its known in Miami is one of North America's
premier merchandising centers. Sprawling over some 368,000 sf, it's focus
is
on Latin America. Some 170 display rooms offer leather goods, ceramics,
designer jeans and much more from South America's leading
designers and
manufacturers who offer their wares to wholesale buyers from all over
North America.
The Marts landscape development was part of an
integrated design that included the adjacent Radisson International Hotel. The
owners
went to no expense to get a quality look and budgeted accordingly. Mature
species of sabal, royal, areca and paurotis palms complemented
shrub
massing of ixora, philodendron, pittosporum and jatropha . A state of the art
irrigation system and custom lighting was also part of the
landscape solution.

Embassy Suites Hotel--Oakdale
Blvd--Lauderdale By The Sea, Fla.
Another of the dozen or so hotel sites that I designed
around the late 80's and early 90's was the Embassy Suites on Oakdale Blvd. near
I-95 in
Lauderdale By the Sea, Fla. Embassy's are corporate oriented hotels with double
room suites for sleeping and one for business with a
complimentary computer, DSL internet, desks, bookshelves and a well equipped
24/7 business center in the main lobby. Parking was a major
challenge on the small site but a very creative solution emerged with rental and
guest parking living happily together. The owners were very
image sensitive and were particularly demanding re the required ambience for the
three ground level grills and restaurants. Interior designers
and I worked closely together to create a old spanish hacienda affair throughout
the site and interior spaces.
