Integrated Communications System--Barranduda New Town--Albury-Wodonga
Development Corporation-Albury-Wodonga on the Murray River--New South
Wales-Victoria-Australia.
The montage below depicts a few
applications of the hundreds of signage variations that I
applied over a 5 year period in Australia. Eight different color coordinated pressed metal
units
were designed with interchangeable parts and produced by Peter Skeen Enterprises- Albury, NSW.
The units
were
stored by the corporation and used as communication needs arose for a wide
variety
of needs--e.g. entrance signs--directional signs--promotional signage for land
sales--location maps or
you are here type signage and so on.
This integrated systems approach to signage needs is common for
most large scale
entities e.g. city building-college campuses-industrial parks-etc. Two good
examples
with high profiles are the national area in Washington D.C. and the British
Historic
Land Trust System.
Key:
1-300mmx1800mm triangular upright unit-typical
application
2-300mmx300mm B unit attached to a custom designed entry sign
3-3 B and 3 D units combined for a developers land sale needs
4-4.34meter pt wood street light--custom designed for the Baranduda community

I designed a lot of detail
using Austen self oxidizing steel that never needs painting and always looks
great with a perpetual rich rust colored finish. In the United States
It's known as Corten or "weatherized steel" and is gaining popularity in
recent years as its great practical value and beauty become more widely known.
This material is
often confused with cast iron products that develop rust and eventually
disintegrate unless the rust is removed by brushing and painting. Austen or
Corten is steel that forms
a protective film of rust and protects the underlying steel indefinitely.
Another typical application was the 50x40mm austen steel tube supporting the pt
2x6 plates of the street
light fixture to your left and immediately above this text.▼▼

throughout much of Tuggeranong's development.
