Solimar Estates--West Boca Raton, Florida
Solimar is a 372 single family development near the Broward/Palm Beach County line
accessible
off Palmetto Park Road . Over
a several year period I
designed and supervised installation of all but a dozen
of the lots like the one below, as well as the landscape design and installation
for the entryway,
tennis
court complex and the central lake area. Work included
a signage
package, trail system, outdoor furniture and lighting for the community.
Owners
and
Developers were Solimar Corporation, Miami, Florida, Kent McCoy Landscape
Architect.

first phase of construction early on in the development process

The Apollo--one of five model floor
plans and site development designed by Kent McCoy
Below is one of five floor plans I designed for Luis
Gonzalez, at that time, owner of Solimar Inc. This 3200 sf scheme was called
Apollo and was the best
seller by far. It was an open floor plan concept with some transparent
walls of French doors, floor to ceiling windows, 12 skylights and glass
block window
walls in many bathrooms. This particular owner was an avid swimmer and requested
as large a swimming pool as practical and it should include a waterfall.
A lot of mature vegetation was used in the
landscape development that included
23 x25' coconut palms, 40 x 20' queen palms, 32 x 10' areca palms and
much more. The Apollo, without extras, but including the site package sold for
$545,000.00

The Mediterranean below was a joint
venture by another builder in Solimar. I did the site plan and landscaping for
many of those including the one below .
This shot was only about a year old at the time to give you an idea of the
impact advanced plant material can have. The two Date Palms (Phoenix
Dactylifera) in
the foreground were installed at that size and were just getting their roots out
12 months later. Other material in this photo included Queen Palms, Pygmy
date palms (phoniex roebelenii) at the entry and lots of varigated pittosporum
tobira. Vines on the entry trellis are confederate jasmine
(Trachelospemun jasminoides). Brick paving was a mortorless running bond with
soft peach tones to complement the sunburnt stucco finish
